Frank (Colin Gerrard) lives in a strange version of reality, unaware that anything is actually wrong, and even unsure about who he really is. It’s only with the help of the mysterious Rick (Simon Wakeford) that he realizes that he is actually dead, and the only way to save his soul from the dangerous Michael (Ryan Gilks) is to search this strange world for his lost love, a girl called 5 (Debbie Hickman).

Surface was the 2nd film produced by 2sb Media (then 2sb+s film company) but the first released. It was first shown at the University of Winchester in 2006.
Surface started out as a concept film, with no real story, and as more of an experiment with special effects using nothing more than a home DV camcorder, a copy of iMovie (version 6 at the time), a copy of Macromedia Flash MX and a budget of 30 Pounds. However after an initial play with the software and making Colin disappear and reappear with relative ease Surface as an experiment was stopped, rewritten as a proper film and started again.
The film, which took one year to complete, also includes a sound track from the talented Christian Stoner, a musician from Southampton who now fronts Dustproof.
